Seize the Dales! The Best Yorkshire Dales Campsites Around
The Yorkshire Dales is a large and wonderful place. But it's often tough to decide where about to settle in for a weekend of camping. That's why we've compiled a list of the best Yorkshire Dales campsites. Tried and tested!
Raving About Runswick
If you're after some Runswick Bay camping, then look no further than Serenity Camping. it's perfectly situated for some restful seaside down time.
There are some great facilities at the site, (prices are here). Feeling like a drink? Well, there are some lovely local pubs only a five minutes walk away serving delicious food, not to mention a chippy, coffee shop, butcher and Coop. A short ten minute walk brings you down to Runswick Bay itself with its unspoilt beach, one shop and one pub (The Royal Hotel- highly recommended). Cliff top walks to Staithes in one direction (three miles along the Cleveland Way) or further to Sandsend in the other, make a lovely way to pass an afternoon with very welcome public houses awaiting you at each. The Cod and Lobster was our watering hole when we last visited. So if you're after some Runswick Bay camping specifically, then this Yorkshire Dales campsite is the one for you!
Holme from Holme by the Yorkshire Three Peaks
The lovely village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale in North Yorkshire is 'holme' to Holme Farm campsite. It’s worth staying at Holme Farm just to meet Chris, the farmer who owns it, and ogle his eclectic reception room marquee which he refers to as ‘The Chateau’. Last time we were there, it was complete with double glazing, a piano, a microwave and opulent Bedouin tent style ceiling. Not sure if it's still the same, but we're certainly going back to check this summer! Bookings are taken by phone only on 01729 860281. There are some good facilities, EHU, great views and within walking distance of two good pubs (The Crown and The Golden Lion) and a café. Have the obligatory fry up with a pint of tea at The Pen-y-Ghent Cafe before scaling all those peaks. This North Yorkshire campsite is definitely not one to miss and one of the best Yorkshire Dales campsites around.
A Layover at Leyburn
One of our old favourites is The Pheasant Inn Caravan Park. The site is immaculate with a lovely pub and basic but clean facilities. Near to Leyburn with its great selection of pubs and restaurants - we have tried and can recommend them all! Wensleydale Creamery is also well worth a visit if you like cheese. Who doesn't?! So if you're after some Leyburn camping, then this Yorkshire dales campsite is the one for you.
Settling in at Settle
The ever-evolving Orcaber Farm campsite, Settle has great views and facilities, and is about a miles walk to the village of Austwick. Here, you can have a splendid meal at The Game Cock Inn or the village of Clapham for another. They've also just added another large camping field. As it's near the peaks this is ideal hiking domain. Get the Orcaber Farm campsite in your diary, it's a Yorkshire Dales campsite you don't want to miss out on.
Gorge Yourself at How Stean Gorge
How Stean Gorge campsite is an awesome, chilled out place allowing campfires and groups, (no EHU) within walking distance of a great pub called The Crown, and with an excellent café onsite. They are serving evening meals here on Friday and Saturday nights now too. It's in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales with the lovely village of Pateley Bridge and it's sweet shop and chippy a few minutes away. Outdoor activities are their forte so for the adrenaline junkies this is heaven with its canyoning, gorge walking, caving, abseiling, canoeing etc all bookable in advance. Stean Gorge campsite is probably one of the finest sites you'll find around the Dales.
Masons Magic
Mason's campsite at Appletreewick is very popular and it's easy to see why with its proximity to two village pubs and lovely walks along the river, to great views and Simon's Seat nearby. What more do we need to say, this is one camping spot you don't want to miss!
We hope you all enjoy getting out and about exploring these Yorkshire Dales camping spots again with restrictions easing. We can personally vouch for all these campsites and really enjoyed our stays at each.
