Sweet Treats For The Whole Family To Enjoy!
You’ve got to treat yourself when you’re on holiday and if you’ve got a sweet tooth, dessert is the perfect way to do that. They don’t need to be anything fancy or complex, in fact the best choices would be the ones the whole family – kids included – can get involved with! Some perfect options for this could be:
‘Banana boats’
This is about as simplistic, but yummy, as desserts get! All you need to do is place a banana on a sheet of aluminium foil and slice it down the middle so it splits in two, but not fully in half. Then add mini marshmallows and chocolate chips or any other toppings you may fancy. Wrap the banana in the foil and put it on the stove for about 10-15 minutes. The marshmallows will toast and the chocolate will melt – success.
‘Campfire roasted apples’
For this you only need apples, cinnamon, sugar and butter. First, core and slice the apple but keep it in the ‘apple shape’. Transfer it to foil and use the foil to keep the shape. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon then add around 1 tbs. of butter that’s cut into cubes to the centre of the apple. Wrap the foil around it. Add the apple to the stove, make sure you turn it every few minutes so each side can cook. Leave to cool for a couple of minutes then enjoy.
‘Grilled fruit kebabs with dip’
If you don’t have a sweet tooth or fancy a healthy alternative these are ideal for you. Some fruits you could use are pineapple, pear, orange, any kind of melon, mango and kiwi. For basting the fruit to get a nice grilled texture you need honey or golden syrup. For the dip a small pot of any flavour yoghurt and 2oz light cream cheese.
If you want to use wood skewers, be sure to soak them in cold water first to avoid them burning. Get the stove to a medium heat and thread the skewer with the fruit. Then baste them with the honey/syrup. Grill the fruit until it begins to get grill marks, remember to rotate them. For the dip simply beat the ingredients together and keep refrigerated.
